I managed to sit through the entire State of the Union speech tonight watching and listening to what the President had to say. He did his best to pander to both sides of the aisle with an admission that we need nuclear power and off shore drilling to meet our future power needs, then he went to bat for the left with his usual braying about green technology, climate change, cap and trade and the immediate need for a (government run) health care program. During his segment on health care he apparently missed the copy on the teleprompter that dealt with Tort reform. Seriously, tort reform is a subject that is off the table with the vast majority in the Democratic Party because the lobbyists for the Trial lawyers association have them by the seat of their pants and they won't touch it no matter how much the American people call for it.
He babbled on some more about both parties need to work together to get whats best for the American people. The most truthful statement that he made was that America has lost trust in government especially that in Washington. He talked about hidden agendas with regard to running the country but failed to say that he and his inner circle have been trying, unsuccessfully for the time being, to move us in the direction of socialism.
I loved the part where he talked about our need to export more products, that's great but we don't make an awful lot that we can export and in the grand scheme of things China has said publicly that they are not going let as much as one manufacturing job leave their country. He said he was going to remove tax breaks from the companies that are exporting jobs, that's fine but if they can get products and services for less in China and India those costs will more than likely offset the difference. Also, if this government is not careful many of the large corporations will pack up and move their headquarters to foreign countries that have favorable tax environments.
The President did talk about the treatment of Veterans and that the government is working to forge a new VA for the future, however Vets will as they have in the past end up getting screwed because Mr. Obama in reality is not a fan of a strong military and like all those who have gone on before him could care less about veterans.
Mr. Obama covered rogue nations and mentioned Iran specifically and that we will impose even stricter sanctions against them if they refuse to bow to world pressure, my guess is that he had to call the Chinese and the Russians before the speech to get their permission to slam the Iranians.
He covered the illegal immigration issue in that he said we will work on the problem and work at closing our borders, although he failed to say that his administration has done nothing since taking office so that means we have had literally millions more people come across our borders this past year.
The President spoke about terrorism and how we have to continue to go after the terror threat, he didn't touch on the fact that the underwear bomber was grossly mishandled and to really save face should have fired everyone involved especially Janet Napilatino of Homeland Security. He said we are offering incentives to the Afghan's in an effort to end the incredible corruption that exists there, but since it is a way of life there I think incentives are a waste of time, we're only enriching the crooks. He also, said that we are working to train a national police force and build their military so they can take on their own enemies, a daunting task at best.
He spent about a nano second admitting that he has made a mistake or two and then went on to try to convince those listening that what goes on in Washington is very complicated stuff, whats so complicated about doing the right thing for the American people.
Throughout the speech his backdrop was the Vice President looking like a life size 'bobble head doll' with his head in a continuous up and down motion that I'm guessing was a form of agreeing with every word the President spoke and Nancy Pelosi who would break out in one toothy smile after another when the psychotropic drugs she must be taking would get the best of her. All in all just another campaign speech.
