D-Day Ceremonies, the Russians and revisionist history or should we say leaving out big parts of the whole truth.

There was an interesting blurb in the news today about the Russians being upset about about being slighted during the recent D-Day ceremonies. Their claim is that they didn't get adequate tribute for their role in defeating Nazi Germany. I guess as a lone American I'll give them an adequate tribute------thanks comrades------but then I must make several clarifications at the same time so as not to ignore actual history.

First and foremost, in case you aren't up on your WWII history or any history for that matter, the Russians were allies of Nazi Germany in 1939, and the real story goes this way. On August 23, 1939 the world was shocked when, Russia and Germany signed a 'Non-aggression Pact'. People would have been even more shocked if they had known at the time that, in addition, the two countries had made a number of 'secret protocol' agreeing to 'spheres of influence' in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Poland. It amounted to an agreement to invade and divide the countries of eastern Europe between them......with Poland first on the list. As stated by the BBC "Germany and Russia agreed to bury the hatchet, they agreed to bury it in Poland".

Further more the Russian's had nothing to do with D-Day (and had they, would probably have notified the German's), the US, England, France and Canada provided the troops that carried out the invasion, which by the way led to the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany. Another little known fact that our 'friends in the former Soviet Union' never mention is that the US provided the technology, most of the machinery and most of the supplies that they, the Soviets, used to fight the Germans after their alliance fell apart. And in reality no one will ever know how many of his own people the benevolent Joseph Stalin put to death during that same period and are included in their loss numbers today.

President Obama was the only leader to mention the overall Soviet losses during his speech at the ceremonies and personally I can't figure out why he did, there weren't any Russians killed at Normandy, unless they were there as spies for Stalin hoping to pass word back that we were taking such a beating that we would be so weakened that the Soviets could turn on us. My best guess is that 44 was working the world audience and thought it best to pander to Russia in the hope of reaching their softer side when he has to sit and negotiate with them, I wonder if he will look into their eyes and see friends?

Thanks for reading,

"The main thing is to have a soul that loves truth and harbours it where he finds it. And another thing: truth requires constant repetition, because error is being preached about us all the time, and not only by isolated individuals but by the masses. In the newspapers and encyclopedias, in schools and universities, everywhere error rides high and basks in the consciousness of having the majority on it's side.
